A metal memorial tablet for Private Edge is also located within St Mary's. Private Edge, aged 39, was killed in the trenches during the charge on Hill 60. A bomb exploded close by causing fatal wounds to the head and body. Feedback from his commanding officer that he fought 'magnificently' and, in fact, had to be reprimanded more than once for exposing himself to danger. When exploding shells caused a fire on the battlefield, Private Edge's body was amongst those burned and lost. Approximately 80% of the 18th Battalion were killed or wounded within a week at Hill 60.
