Enlisted July 1915, a sailor aged 36. Previously a soldier in the East Lancs Regiment in the UK. Served at Gallipoli Jan - March 1916 and then to France. Wounded in action at the Somme August 1916, gun shot wound to the thigh which fractured the bone. Leg subsequently amputated at the thigh. Medical discharge early 1918. Last known address: 7 Vernon Street
