Description / Background

This Garden of Remembrance is located outside the Inverell Returned Servicemen's Memorial (R.S.M.) Club. It is on the southern side of the club, near the front entrance. There are two main garden beds, which are planted with a variety of shrubs. One of the plants is the Sister Kathleen M. Neuss Memorial Tree

The beds are positioned along the base of two high walls, which form an L-shaped space. The walls are decorated with colourful murals, depicting scenes from conflicts and peacekeeping missions in which Australia has been involved, such as East Timor. Each mural has an inscription or a name plaque accompanying it. There are also paintings of Australian military emblems and flags, along the tops of the walls.

On 24 July 2005, the Inverell R.S.L. sub-Branch received a 'Saluting Their Service' grant to establish the garden. The artwork was created by several artists, including L Moore, V Duncan, and L Moon.

Also on site is a Howitzer 25-pounder gun. It is surrounded by a brick wall, which has numerous plaques attached. The plaques bear dedications to particular conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
