Memorial Driveway Park, Cooma Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Memorial Driveway Park in Cooma is located on the corner of the Monaro Highway and Yallakool Road. It was established and gazetted in 1964 and subsequently restored in 2022. Originally, each of the trees was dedicated to a specific person, with the installation of a small cement plinth and a stainless-steel plaque. When the park fell into disrepair, many plaques were relocated to a memorial in Vale Street, Cooma. One cement plinth survives in situ in the Park. The Park was designed by Mr L.J. McInnes, the Snowy Mountains Authority Superintendent of Parks and Gardens. It was planned as a "terminal" on the Memorial Drive, Cooma, and cost 12,000 pounds. Planting began in July 1964, but the official dedication took place on Armistice Day, 11 November. The dedication was performed by Padre Johnson, the chaplain of The Royal Military College, Duntroon (The Canberra Times, 20 July 1964; 10 September 1964; 6 November 1964).
