Award the Military Medal:
'Gunner CROWLEY acted as Telephonist to the Forward Observing Officer during the operations in the attack of the RIDGE on Th October 1917. This man, throughout his tour of duty, showed marked bravery and determination to transmit messages, although continually subjected to very heavy enemy fire. He was most successful in this regard, and accompanied his Officer to a position in front of our own Protective /Barrage Line, in order to gain information. At one time when the telephone was damaged by shellfire, he together with Gunner GRAINGER, returned through a heavy barrage in order to have repairs to the telephone effected. On this being done he again made his way to the Advanced post. His work materially assisted in the Artillery, gaining the most useful information of enemy movements. His conduct throughout the operation was a splendid example of courage and determination.'
