Alma Park War Memorial Gates, Uralla Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The war memorial gates at the entrance to Alma Park in Uralla, NSW, were completed for Anzac Day, 1959. Constructed of decoratively textured bricks, the columns are capped with blocks of Uralla granite. Two metal gates hang from the columns, with a metal arch above, forming the entry to the park. The granite caps were part of the previous memorial gates, located at the entrance to Hampden Park, Uralla. The original gates were dedicated on 22 February 1925 and were removed in the 1950s (The Uralla Times, 5 May 1950). There are two metal dedication plaques for the First World War inset on the brick columns. Three metal plaques with honour rolls for the Second World War are attached to the gates themselves. These were unveiled in 1992. There is a further plaque for the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War attached to the side of one column, which was installed in 1995. An annual Anzac Day march is held in Uralla. The march ends at these gates, where a service is then held with veterans, family members, officials, and members of the community.
