On the exterior front wall are two foundation stones and three white marble honour roll plaques, two for the First World War and one for the Second World War. From 'Bendick Murrell Memorial Hall' by W.G. Elliott, ‘Barrelli’, Crowther 2803: 09 February 2001 The Bendick Murrell Memorial Hall was built following a meeting held at Bendick Murrell on Friday 12 June 1925. The following office bearers were appointed: President: J.H. Dawe; Vice Presidents: E.E. Grounds, S. Healey and E. Farnsworth; Treasurer: W.W. Sutherland; Secretary: S. Allen; Collectors: W.M. Sutherland, T.S. Sutherland, L. Warton, C. Williams, V. Elliott and Geo. Prescud. The hall was built on a block of land purchased from Mr John Lynch. The original hall cost the equivalent of $3,600 in 1925. Additions of a supper room built following the receipt of a generous legacy from the late Vera Miller late last century at a cost of $65,000. The memorial hall became part of the Bendick Murrell recreation ground. The care of the hall is in the hands of local trustees. Inscription Foundation stone 1 This stone was laid by Major General the Hon Sir Neville Howse VC KCB KCMC Minister for Defence and Health In grateful recognition to all those who enlisted in The Great War 1914-1918 10th October 1925 Foundation stone 2 This stone was laid by Mrs A. Sutherland, Senr. As a tribute to those who volun- teered from Bendick Murrell and District to serve in the Great War. 1914 - 1918. 10th October 1925 Roll 1 The Town and District tribute to those who volunteered.
