Dedication:
RSL CLUB Memorial dedicated to our fallen comrades officially opened by MR BRUCE RUXTON AM OBE 15 November 2002
Plaque:
Dee Why RSL Club War Memorial
The memorial is a strong dominant structure dedicated to individuals and the nation as a whole. It remembers the sacrifices made in war so that future generations may live in freedom and harmony.
Many symbolic elements are fused together in the structure. Facing north the exterior of the memorial alludes to the need for eternal vigilance- the price of freedom. The weathered hardwood reflects the harshness and brutality of war. The vertical elements are reminiscent of a military formation drawn together for a united purpose. The staggered top reminds us that although many fell their contribution will never be forgotten. The internal face is less severe, alluding to the peace and protection provided by those who have gone before us. At 'the going down of the sun' the illuminated vertical glass conveys light, hope and the continuance of spirit. Let us stand in this place and remember those fallen comrades who fought for the freedom of our nation. LEST WE FORGET
Wooden band surrounding vertical uprights:
At the going down of the sun nd in the morning we will remember them
[at the base of the structure] LEST WE FORGET. HUMILITY, UNISON, RADIANCE, BELIEF, COURAGE, CONTINUANCE

Dee Why RSL Club Peace Garden
Welcome to the Peace Garden, created as a place of reflection and tranquillity to pay homage to those who have fallen in service to our country. The design employs the symmetry of natural elements which evoke symbols of life, peace and remembrance.
The Reflection Pool - Water elements have long been associated with cleansing and the peace garden.
The Olive Grove - The olive branch is associated with the return of dove to Noah's Ark and represents peace and security. The grove of olive trees celebrates continued peace in our land.
The Rosemary Hedge - This plant was, in ancient times, thought to strengthen memory. Greek scholars wore rosemary to help remember their studies, and the association with remembrance has carried through to modern times. On Anzac Day rosemary is worn as an emblem of remembrance.
We invite you to enjoy a few minutes of thoughtful meditation amongst the natural beauty of these symbolic features and plantings.
