Duri First World War Honor Roll Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This marble honor roll commemorating local railway employees is an outstanding piece of craftmanship. It was salvaged from the local railway station prior to demolition and attached to the rear face of the Duri-Warral Honour Roll column. Additional information by Sydney Trains A fine white and black marble tablet, giving the appearance of a paper scroll hanging from a classical temple. The names of Duri district veterans who served in the First World War are written in black. It was produced by renowned Narrabri momumental stonemason and terrazzo artist M.W. Hardy (1867–1950). It was unveiled at Duri Railway Station, and after the demolition of the station, the memorial was relocated and attached to the Duri-Warral Honour Roll, a concrete column with names of twentieth-century war veterans, including all those on this roll. Other notable rolls by Hardy are the Narrabri District School 1914-1919 Roll of Honour, Breeza War Memorial and Edgeroi First World War Roll of Honour. Hardy was a Freemason and his memorials feature a distinctive 'Masonic' style, with the use of white marble and delicate black inlay linework, black and white checked floors, columns supporting architectural pediments, crossed flags, scrolls, banners and military insignia.
