Glenquarry Peace Hall and Roll of Honour Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background Glenquarry Peace Memorial Hall is a timber hall with metal roof, erected in 1920. The hall was built by the community after the First World War to celebrate the restoration of peace. The community were planning to build a community hall earlier but plans were put on hold due to the start of the war. The community felt it fitting to name the hall a peace memorial to acknowledge the value of peace. Inside the hall is a printed textile replica of a painted roll of honour, honouring those who served in the First and Second World Wars. The original roll is stored for safe keeping at the Glenquarry Primary School. From Glenquarry Peace Memorial Hall Inc. website: The Glenquarry Peace Memorial Hall is located at 94 Tourist Road Glenquarry. The Glenquarry Community had considered the idea of a community hall for around 20 years prior to the reality of its construction and at the end of WWI (1919) locals combined to form a committee to construct the hall as a memorial to the "Restoration of Peace". An organising committee was formed at a public meeting held in August 1919. The President was L.W. Menzies with the local school master W.A. Coulson, organising secretary. The land where the hall stands was donated by William G. Menzies. The stone for the foundation pillars was donated by Leslie W. Menzies and the hardwood for the building was donated by James Griffiths. The plans for the hall were drawn up by Mr Alfred Stephens and the successful tender was awarded to Bowral builder W.J. Yates. Glenquarry Peace Memorial Hall was officially opened on April 29th 1920 by the Mayor of Bowral Mr H.J. Pickard. The first elected office bearers of the Glenquarry Peace Memorial Hall were President Mr L.W. Menzies, Vice President Mr James Menzies (father of Jessie (Menzies), Bradman), Secretary W.A. Coulson (Glenquarry School Master), Treasurer W.A Norman, Committee J.J. Wood, J.W. Wills, K.M.Smith, R. Wilson, J Griffiths, J. Maloney, E. Griffiths. F.C. Cole, J.C. Wood, W.B. Morrow. Mr L.W.
