Underneath the raised section is a crucible-shaped structure which may have originally contained a flame of remembrance. Several commemorative plaques are attached to the upper structure, including honour rolls for the First and Second World Wars. Inscription Dedication plaque This Memorial to perpetuate the memory of those who answered their country's call during the Great War of 1914-1919 was erected by the people of Mittagong District and handed over to the Mittagong Municipal Council.
