The pediment features a carving of an eagle with a chain around its neck, with the school motto underneath. In March 1919, the Headmaster of New England Grammar called for names for the Honour Roll. The memorial was made by H. Faulconbridge, furniture maker of Armidale. Following completion, it was photographed by the Solomon Studios in Armidale on 10 July 1920 and it was unveiled in early October 1920. The School has since been demolished and the Honour Roll is housed in the Land of the Beardies History House Museum and Research Centre.
