The memorial sits on three steps in the centre of a paved circular area halfway along the pathway leading from the park's memorial gates. Attached to the memorial are eight inscribed metal plaques dedicated to conflicts in which Australia has been involved. All but one carry the Australian Army, Navy and Airforce insignias. Behind the pillar is a flagstaff.
