Stephenson recordes that Agnes Paine(Nee Woodfield) d 1944 married John Paine 1916 and was the mother of Victor Payne (born 1917).NSWBD& M 11448/1916 records marriage of John Paine to Agnes V Woodfield.SMH 15.12.1945 records the Engagement of ," Alice,second daughter of Mr & Mrs T.E. Corkish of Lakemba to Victor Roy,only son of the late Mrs A.V. Paine of Bungendore." DVA Nominal Roll does not record any "Paine V.R" and only one" Payne V.R." from SA.Could be Roy Paine NX9274 of Captains Flat whose NOK was Agnes Paine of Bungendore but if so why was he recorded as only "Roy" and not as "Victor Roy"? Ryerson Index indicates that a Victor Roy (Tiger) Paine died at Bayhaven,Point Vernon Qld (late of Hervey Bay ,formerly of Avalon and Captains Flat) on 11 August 2001 aged 84-Notices in the SMH and Hervey Bay Observer on 15 August 2001.Register of War Memorials NSW has a Victor Roy Payne NX9274 recorded on the Avalon Beach RSL Memorial.2.Grandson of Victor Roy Paine,David Paine of Avalon confirmed July 2013 that Roy Paine and Victor Roy are the same person. Victor Roy attempted to join the AIF in the Canberra area but was rejected on the basis that he had "flat feet"; so he went to Sydney and again attempted enlistment as "Roy" and was accepted. 3. As noted above,Mother was a Woodfield who served in WW1 & WW2 and is remembered on the Bungendore War Memorial WW1 ROH.
