Description / Background

The Belmont Methodist Church Great War Honour Roll is a timber honour roll, which lists nine members of the church who served in the First World War. The top corners of the board are decorated with floral carvings and the full piece measures 94.5cm high by 49cm wide.

The memorial lists the names of nine veterans printed in gold lettering on the centre panel. There are two sets of brothers listed, E H Mathews and W R Mathews, and C T Marks and L G Marks. Private W R Mathews is the only veteran marked with a gold cross, indicating he died in service. There are possibly three other brothers or relatives also listed.

The honour roll was dedicated on 27 April 1930 by Reverend R A Bell at a commemorative Anzac Day church service and was unveiled by Mrs Richard Marks (Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate, 28 April 1930).

Note: This memorial board is not available for viewing by the public.
