Description / Background

This Lone Pine tree is located in Stewart McTaggart Park on the southern side of the Broke War Memorial. It was planted on Anzac Day 2015 as part of the commemoration of 100 years since the Battle of Lone Pine at Gallipoli in the First World War. A plaque is attached to a timber post at the base of the tree.

The significance of the Lone Pine for Australian military service goes back to the First World War. Lone Pine seedlings have been developed as a result of the partnership between the Australian War Memorial and Yarralumla Nursery in Canberra. Consequently, many Lone Pine seedlings have been planted in schools and public parks on commemorative occasions. More information about these trees can be found on the Australian War Memorial's website
