Description / Background

The memorial is a simple timber roll of honour with veteran names painted in gold across three columns. The pediment at the top of the board is decorated with a carved rising sun badge and a painted green and gold leaf design. The main body of the honour board features a distinctive use of a dark wood stain reinforcing the architectural style of the honour roll.

The roll of honour was unveiled in the Bulahdelah School of Arts on 21 June 1918. At the unveiling ceremony Mr Matthew Charlton MHR delivered an address to the large number of residents in attendance from the town and district. The honour roll was unveiled by Mrs H Edwards. A report published in the Dungog Chronicle: Durham and Gloucester Advertiser, 12 July 1918, described the event and listed the names of the servicemen on the memorial, indicating those who had died and those who had returned home invalided.
