Chambigne and O.B.X. First World War Roll of Honour Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a polished cedar Roll of Honour for those who enlisted in the First World War from the Chambigne and O.B.X. districts. It is decorated with full colour paintings of the crossed Union Jack and the Australian flag in the top centre, situated over the scroll bearing the words 'Advance Australia'. In the background of the flags are Australian flowers. At the top there is a small pediment with supporting shelves at the top and bottom of the board. Planning for the memorial was underway in 1918 as on 22 October an advertisement appeared in the Daily Examiner (Grafton) announcing that a social was to be held in the Chambigne Hall on 25 October in aid of the board. On 6 June 1919, the Examiner published that the finished roll was displayed in the Sander's business window in Grafton. The article also listed the 23 names on the roll. Sanders was a long established furniture company in Grafton. The location and date of the unveiling ceremony is unknown. The board is currently located in the Schaeffer House Museum in Grafton. Note: The O.B.X. Creek Public School also had an honour board that was unveiled in 1917, however its location is unknown. The roll of honour was unveiled at a large gathering at the school on 14 September 1917 by Mrs W T Austen. The board not only listed the names, but included photographs of the seventeen ex-pupils from the school who had enlisted in the First World War (Daily Examiner (Grafton), 18 September 1917).
