Coolah Vietnam War Memorial Avenue Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This avenue of trees in Coolah NSW is dedicated to those Australian servicemen who died in the Vietnam War on 18 August 1966 in the Battle of Long Tan. Roy Cameron who was the Coolah Shire Clerk in 1966 was responsible for developing the proposal and making the arrangements for the planting of the trees. The trees, which are red flowering Ironbarks, are located on the northern side of Martin Street in the proximity of the Coolah Hospital. They were planted on the evening of the military funeral of Paul Andrew Large, a Coolah resident, by members of the Coolah RSL sub-Branch. The trees are accompanied by a sign and a bushrock faced with two plaques explaining the purpose of the plantings and names of those men those who died. The honour roll names plaque was unveiled on 25 April 2003. Inscription Sign Vietnam Memorial Avenue These Red Flowering Ironbarks were planted in memorial of the Battle of Long Tan. Plaque 1 This avenue was planted to perpetuate the memory of Private Paul Andrew Large, 6th R.A.R. and formerly of Coolah and seventeen of his fellow servicemen who were killed in Vietnam on 18th August, 1966.
