The Darcy King Memorial Garden Middle Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial garden features a long V-shaped wall, which acts as a backdrop to the garden beds and grassed area. On the street-side of the wall, there are several bronze plaques and the emblems of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army, and Royal Australian Air Force. On the side of the wall that faces the garden, is a bronze laurel wreath and numerous plaques for deceased ex-Service Club members. In addition, facing the main road, there are three pieces of military equipment, one from each service arm: a ship's anchor, a field gun, and an aircraft propeller. The garden was first established in 1959 and it was rededicated on 25 April 1985, in memory of Darcy King. Dedicated by Canon Padre Harry Thorpe, MBE, ThL, Dip CC, Dip RE and officially opened by the Hon J B Renshaw, MLA, Minister for Local Government & Highways on the 10th October, 1959.
