Description / Background

The Defence of Sydney Monument is a sandstone lookout over Sydney Harbour, with design elements representing the three armed services of the Second World War. It was dedicated on 18 November 1995 by the Governor of NSW, His Excellency Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair AO.

A memorial service is hosted annually by the Federal Member for Warringah on the last Friday of May.

The monument was commissioned by the Warringah Australia Remembers Trust and adjoins a memorial walkway managed by the Royal Australian Artillery Historic Company in cooperation with the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.

Dr Peter Oppenheim was the architect of the monument, which was engineered by John Elliott, CUMEC Pty Ltd, and built by GerryDuits.
