Fairfield Park Honour Avenue Middle Image Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background At the entrance to the Fairfield Park Honour Avenue is an archway, which consists of two red brick pillars connected by a metal arch. The arch includes the words '1939 Honour Avenue 1945'. A bronze relief panel adorns each pillar, representing scenes from post-Second World War conflicts. A separate area within the park has two flagstaffs, each surrounded by a semi-circular structure displaying the names of Second World War personnel. The memorial was upgraded to include an etched paver for every Fairfield resident who served in the armed forces from the First World War to date, and have since died. Each section is headed by a sandstone paver depicting the RSL (First World War), RAN (Second World War), Australian Army (Korea), R.A.A.F. (Malaya/Borneo), Women's Royal Australian Army Corps (Vietnam), Merchant Marine (Non-Active Service - Reserve/and Post-Vietnam). The paved walkway is flanked by rosemary and native perennials, with staggered seats opposite each group. The end of the Avenue has a Lone Pine grown from the original tree, and plinths depicting the Battle Honours of the R.A.N., Army, and R.A.A.F. in which residents fought. Inscription Plaque This memorial represents a lasting tribute to the memory of the servicemen of this district who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War II.
