Description / Background

This memorial is a large honour roll for ex-pupils of Fort Street High School who died while serving in the First World War. It is made of a dark red timber and features a simple pediment, which has been decorated with the school's crest.

The list of names is printed in gilt in the centre of the board, across nine columns. The tenth column on the board is blank. The names in the eighth and ninth columns are listed under the heading 'Added 2015'. This date, plus the excellent appearance and condition of the roll, suggest it may have been replaced or refurbished around that time.

The roll is mounted on a wall inside the school's Memorial Hall. It is adjacent to the Fort Street High School Second World War Honour Roll, which is accompanied by an Australian Blue Ensign. Also in the hall is the Fort Street High School Korean War and Post-Korean War Conflicts and Peacekeeping Memorial

Access to view the memorials at the school is by appointment/tour only.
