A timber sign identifies the name of the park and a bushrock bears a plaque inscribed with information about Francis Smith. The park is opposite Greenway Lane, next to the Springwood Library and local council offices. Inscription Timber sign Francis Smith Memorial Park Plaque Springwood's Solitary Soldier This park is dedicated in memory of Private Francis Smith who died at the Springwood Military Stockade 5th May, 1836 A soldier for 25 years in the 4th, King's Own Regiment, Francis Smith was a veteran of the Peninsular and Second American Wars. He garrisoned post-Revolutionary France, the West Indies and Ireland, before accompanying the regiment to New South Wales in 1832. Detached in turn at Mount Victoria, Cox's river, Emu Plains and Springwood, he represents the type of men charged to protect travellers through these mountains before lawful settlement was permitted. This plaque was unveiled on the occasion of Springwood's 175th Commemoration by Brigadier D.J McLachlan, AM, Commander of the 2nd Military District and Master Nathan Craig Dubber (15 months) youngest descendent of Francis Smith on 5th May 1990.
