Description / Background

Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery and Crematorium in Dapto, NSW, contains a well-maintained memorial area for ex-servicemen and women. Their names can be inscribed on individual plaques, which are attached to stone walls positioned throughout the space.

The focal point of the area is a granite bushrock, with inscriptions on the front and back. A bronze plaque of a bugle also adorns the front, along with another plaque commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Second World War. On the back are the emblems of the Australian Imperial Force, Royal Australian Navy, and Royal Australian Air Force.

At the front base of the stone is a single rosemary bush, accompanied by a smaller bushrock bearing a plaque. The plaque states the bush was planted on Remembrance Day, 11 November 2007 in honour of Australians who have fallen in war.

Towards the back of the memorial area are four flagpoles. Two stand each side of a large, bronze plaque that is supported by two metal posts. It features an illustration of a battle scene and was installed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the Lakeside complex. Private commemorative services are held on site.
