Leech's Gully Public School First World War Honour Roll, Tenterfield Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a rectangular timber honour roll board, surrounded by a simple timber frame. It does not feature any decorations. The names of 20 ex-pupils from Leech's Gully Public School, who were serving in the First World War as at July 1916, are hand-painted in the centre of the board. The Tenterfield Star, 21 August 1916, reported Leech's Gully teacher J. Donnelly was organising the roll. Three weeks later, on 14 September, the Star described in detail the unveiling that took place on 6 September. The article also listed the names inscribed on the roll. Tenterfield's Mayor, Alderman Stewart, unveiled the memorial at the ceremony. Leech's Gully Public School opened in September 1882 and closed in December 1957. The roll has since been moved to the Tenterfield and District Soldiers Memorial Hall. Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the hall.
