Description / Background

The Lodge Eltham No. 272 First World War Roll of Honor is a stained timber board, which lists the names of four brothers of the lodge who served in the war. It has a strong architectural design, featuring a shaped pediment at the top, carved columns on both sides and three centre panels where the names were to be listed. The pediment is decorated with golden paintings of the Freemason's symbolic compass and square, alongside ivy. The base of the board features a decorative painted banner, which highlights the phrase 'God save the King'.

The board was designed by Brother J. Collings and it unveiled by Worshipful Brother S. McLean on 5 May 1917. These details are included on the timber apron of the board.

Eltham is located fifteen kilometres from the City of Lismore, along Bangalow Road. Lodge Eltham No. 272 was in existence by September 1916.
