Description / Background

The memorial is a polished Queensland maple honour roll that commemorates former pupils of the Menah School who enlisted in the First World War. The honour roll is topped by a carved pediment, with a shelf and carved supports below and a small supporting shelf at the bottom. The names and fate of 20 ex-pupils are written in gold across two columns on the board.  The memorial was constructed by George Knight and the letters were crafted by A C Low.

The memorial was unveiled at the Menah School on 6 December 1919. A large crowd attended the ceremony which was presided over by Mr H Wyatt. The unveiling was performed by Reverend E P Lowe (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, 15 December 1919).

Menah (also known as Munna) is located nine kilometres north-west of Mudgee. The Menah School opened in July 1883 and was renamed Wilbertree Flat School in 1941 until the school closed in May 1944.

The memorial is now located in the Mudgee Museum and is open for viewing when the museum is open to the public.
