Description / Background

The Mudgee Memorial Walk in Robertson Park consists of two pathways lined by Melaleuca (paperbark) trees, interspersed with several bush rocks each with an attached bronze plaque. The Memorial Walk is dedicated to those who served from 1950 to the present. The project was supported by Yancoal-Moolarben Coal, Mudgee Soldiers Club, Kerry Roberts Stonescene and Mudgee RSL Sub-Branch.

Two groups of plaques form the Memorial Walk: those dedicated to the peacekeeping role that Australia has played and those plaques that outline the conflicts that have involved Australian forces since 1950. All peacekeeping involvement has taken place under control of the United Nations Consular Commission and each of the peacekeeping plaques contain the United Nations emblem in one corner with the Australian Defence Force ensign in the other.

The plaques outline United Nations Australian peacekeeping service in the following locations: East Timor, Kashmir, Israel, Congo, Western New Guinea, Yemen, Cyprus, India-Pakistan border, Israel-Syria border, Mazurka, Lebanon, Rhodesia, Uganda, Iran, Namibia, Afghanistan-Pakistan, Iraq, Kurdistan, Western Sahara, Cambodia, Somalia, Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Mozambique, Bougainville, Guatemala, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Sudan and Darfur.

Each of the bronze plaques dedicated to the various conflicts is decorated with three military emblems: that of the Australian Army, Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force. The plaques are dedicated to the following areas of conflict: Korea, Malaya/Borneo, Vietnam, The Middle East, and Afghanistan
