Description / Background

Middleton Grove is a row of Fraxinus Raywoodii trees planted on the western side of Victoria Park, Dubbo, on 28 November 1992. The trees commemorate Pilot Officer Rawdon Hume Middleton who was killed in action in the Second World War and posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.

Nearby is a sculpture bust of Middleton, positioned on top of a sandstone plinth. He is depicted from the chest up, showing the top of his Royal Australian Air Force uniform. The bust was unveiled in November 2012 and was created by Brett Garling. Attached to the plinth are two plaques, one of which includes his VC citation.

The Gilgandra Weekly, 21 January 1943 published a detailed account of his military service.
