Description / Background

This war memorial is a large timber board, established by the Country Women's Association (CWA) in Mudgee to record district enlistments in the Second World War. It features a curved pediment at the top and timber slats running vertically down the main body of the board, dividing the area into 10 sections. The names of the male and female enlistees are printed in gold within these sections.

The date of unveiling and dedication of the memorial has not been determined, however the Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, 7 June 1951 published details of a CWA meeting held in Mudgee, where a discussion took place concerning the honour roll. It was decided "to gather a complete list of names of relatives of CWA members in Mudgee and district entitled to be entered on the roll."

Three years later, the Guardian, 6 December 1954 reported that as the honour roll in the CWA rooms was still incomplete and the secretary was instructed to obtain a complete list of names before consulting Mr Cottee to finalise the roll.

It is likely to memorial was originally located in the CWA Rooms. It is now located in the Mudgee Museum and is available for viewing when the museum is open to the public.
