St Bartholomew's Anglican Church First World War Roll of Honour, Alstonville Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This roll of honour is for members of St Bartholomew's Church in Alstonville who served in the First World War. It is a simple, polished timber board, divided into two matching panels. Each panel has a Gothic-shaped top with the trefoil in the centre, representing the Holy Trinity. At the very top of the board, in between the panels, is a Latin cross that is made from the same timber. The panels contain the list of 39 names, neatly printed in gold. Five names are marked with a gold Latin cross, indicating they fell during the war. Three names include military honours, such as M.M. for Military Medal. Most of the list is in alphabetical order, except the last two names on the right-hand side panel, indicating they were added after the roll was finished. Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the church. Also on site is the St Bartholomew's Anglican Church Second World War Honour Roll, Alstonville, which was unveiled in April 1951 and has a similar appearence. Notes: Historical information for this listing is from the church's centenary publication A Vision Splendid, 1915–2015, compiled by Julie Chesworth with research from Ian Kirkland and Alison Draper. Research on the names in the below table was conducted using the A.I.F. Project database and They served us well: WWI service personnel of Tintenbar Shire by Ian Kirkland.
