Description / Background

The memorial is a brass roll of honour presented in a timber frame, dedicated to those from the St John's Presbyterian Church in Clunes who served in the Second World War. The names of 52 veterans are listed in three columns in embossed lettering on the memorial. A cross indicates those who were killed. The roll was located in the church and was unveiled in October 1948. The memorial was relocated to the Clunes Community Hall in May 2009 after the church was sold. A stained glass window of the Good Shepherd was also dedicated on the same day.

The brass honour roll and stained glass memorial window, a gift of the congregation, were dedicated in front of a large congregation on Sunday 1 October 1948. An invitation to the service had been extended to the Presbyterians who enlisted from the districts covered by Clunes, Corndale, Pearce's Creek, Eltham, Eureka, Federal, Rosebank and Bexhill. The service was conducted by the Minister, Reverend N Monsen, with the dedication performed by Reverend A T P North, Moderator of the Richmond Presbytery (Northern Star (Lismore), 5 October 1948).

The memorial is available for viewing when the Clunes Community Hall is open to the public.
