Description / Background

This honor roll is a stylised metal plaque, decorated with the head and shoulders of an Australian serviceman. He is wearing a slouch hat emblazoned with the rising sun emblem. Above his head is the word 'ANZAC'. In the background are sandbags, drawn rifles, and bayonets. The British and Australian flags flank the soldier.

All the decorative elements and the name of the roll are raised above the surface of the plaque using pressed metal techniques. The names and dedication, 'Bravo Tent Hill', are inscribed on individual metal plaques and attached to the body of the roll. No year is given for the end of the war.

The memorial was made by the Wunderlich Company of Sydney. They specialised in the manufacture of tiles and pressed metal for ceilings and walls. The company created bronze memorials of various sizes with stylised decorative work, including those which could be incorporated into metal facades or attached to the front of a monument.

Tent Hill was located a few kilometres from Vegetable Creek, later named Emmaville, which developed as a mining area from the 1870s. Tent Hill was named for the mining tents of the early tin miners.

The roll may have once been located in the Tent Hill Hall. It is now found in the Military Room of the Emmaville Mining Museum. Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening times of the museum.
