Description / Background

Tenterfield War Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission (C.W.G.C.) site located in the south eastern corner of the Tenterfield Cemetery. During the Second World War a military camp was established at Tenterfield close to the railway line and the Queensland border. The war cemetery contains eight war burials of service personnel who died in accidents in the camp. Each grave is marked with a Commission headstone, inscribed with the veteran's military service details and the emblem of their service branch.

The area has a wire and pipe fence at the front of the cemetery with brick pillars supporting the metal gateway. At the front of the cemetery is a black marble memorial plaque laid in a cement surround in remembrance of 200 soldiers from Tenterfield who died on the battlefields during the First World War.
