Tingha Methodist Church First World War Roll of Honor Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a timber honour roll for the First World War. It has an intricately carved pediment and features a painting of the crossed Union Jack and Australian flags. The names of members of the Tingha Methodist Church who served in the war are listed across two columns in the centre of the board. Some of the original names are printed in gold, while others have been added over time using white paint. The roll was unveiled at the church on 27 January 1918. The Reverend A. W. Porton of Inverell performed the dedication service and Mrs Eggins, who had sent three sons to the front and lost one, performed the unveiling. The ceremony was reported in the Tingha Advocate and North-Western Journal on 1 February. At the time, the roll only included 29 names, four of whom had died. All the names were published in the article, which also described the memorial as: A handsome honor roll, of Gothic architectural design, the ... names being enscrolled in letters of gold under the conjoined flags of England and the land of the Southern Cross. At some stage, the roll was moved to the Tingha Sport and Recreation Club. Access to it is restricted to the opening hours of the club. Note: Several of the names on the roll are illegible and are not recorded in the table below. Inscription Roll of Honor Tingha Methodist Church.
