Turramurra Memorial Park and Gates Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background Turramurra Memorial Park is a well-maintained community sports facility, featuring an oval, tennis courts, and a playground. At its entrance on the corner of Eastern and Karuah Roads, stands a set of memorial gates, which were erected in honour of those who served in the First World War. The gates consist of two sandstone block pillars, flanked by two low walls that are also made of sandstone blocks. Two decorative metal gates are suspended from the pillars, and the whole structure is topped by a metal arch. Attached to the front face of both pillars are bronze honour roll panels, inscribed with the names of more than 130 veterans. The gates are accessed by a short flight of brick stairs. The official opening ceremony took place on 1 April 1928, with the unveiling being performed by Sir Dudley de Chair, Governor of NSW.
