Werris Creek Public School First World War Roll of Honor Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Werris Creek Public School First World War Roll of Honor is a rare photographic honour roll. It contains the images of 21 ex-pupils and one assistant teacher from the school who enlisted in the first two years of the war. At the top of the board in an illustration of a scroll, surrounding the words 'Our School Roll of Honor for King and Country'. The scroll is accompanied by the crossed Union Jack and Australian flags, and a portrait of the King. In the centre of the board is the list of names, which also includes their rank and service details. The memorial was unveiled at the school on 16 September 1916 by Mr W. M. Kennedy, Inspector of Schools. It remains on site and is available for viewing by appointment. In some country towns, the local photographic company photographed soldiers in uniform as a gift before they left for military service.
