Werris Creek Railways Employees First World War Roll of Honour Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a timber honour roll for the employees of the Werris Creek railways who served in the First World War. The names of 68 staff are printed in gold across three columns on the main section of the board. Now separated from the names panel, the pediment is decorated with a fine painting of two soldiers, a train exiting a tunnel, and a miniature portrait of King George V. The memorial was unveiled at the Werris Creek Railway Depot on 28 January 1917 by Mr Milne, Deputy Chief Commissioner for Railways. The event was reported in the Newcastle Herald and Miners Advocate two days later. The brief article incorrectly stated the roll contained 168 names. When the depot closed in 1990, the roll was moved to the Werris Creek RSL. It was moved again to the Australian Railways Journey Museum around 2005.
