Description / Background

The western end of St George's Anglican Church in Parkes was established in the 1950s in honour of those who served in the First and Second World Wars and Korea. Within the space are a set of books containing handwritten entries for those who served in conflicts in which Australia has been involved. The books are contained in a glass-topped recess within a brick 'ark', inlayed with a brick cross on the front face. There is also a framed document outlining the story of the unknown soldier and plaque bearing a sword that has been turned into a ploughshare.
