Let us pray
O God of the Spirits of all flesh, we praise and magnify Thy Holy Name for all Thy servants who, having fought a good fight, have finished their course in Thy faith and fear; and we beseech Thee that, encouraged by their example and strengthened by their fellowship, we, with them, may be found meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light, through the merits of Thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Inscribed in this book are the names of sons and daughters of the Parish of Hunter's Hill who, in the dark days which followed the outbreak of war in September of the year 1939, responded to the call of King and country to leave all that was dear to them, to endure hardness and to face dangers in many lands.
Striving to uphold the honour of the British Empire throughout the world, they have faithfully followed in the footsteps of their fathers, whose valour won for Australia a name that will live as long as the deeds of brave men are recorded in the history of mankind.
