Inscription

Lest We Forget

1939 † 1945

We remember those who served and fell, and also those who served them well, for both we seek Christ's saving grace, though both are men of a different race.

This living memorial is dedicated to those who went from the Parish of St John’s, Woolwich, and gave their lives in World War 2, 1939-1945. It takes the form of the translation and printing of two thousand copies of St John’s Gospel in the language of the Gogodara people, some of whom served with the Australian Military Forces in New Guinea.

[Gospel]

The Gospel of St John in the Gogodara language.
