The Lockhart Memorial Hall is a single-storey brick building, comprising a front entrance area, the main hall, a meeting room for the Lockhart RSL sub-Branch, and a supper room. Originally built in 1901 as the School of Arts Hall, significant additions and alterations were undertaken in 1957 by the War Memorial Committee.
Below is an extract from an article which appeared in The Lockhart Review and Oaklands Advertiser on 23 June 1953, regarding the committee's plans and fundraising efforts to carry out the improvements. It emphasises the importance of the memorial to the citizens of Lockhart and district:
The Hall Committee feels that citizens of Lockhart and district appreciate that the Memorial Hall is the district Memorial to the members of the fighting services and that the members of the Hall Committee are the citizens' representatives in the endeavour to ensure the completion of a structure that is a credit to them. Accordingly the Hall Committee seeks the co-operation and assistance of every member of the public in bringing the venture to a satisfactory conclusion.
Located in the front entrance area are several honour rolls, which are listed separately on the NSW War Memorials Register. Please refer to the 'Related memorials' section below.
