Description / Background

The memorial tree is planted in McMaster Park, a small urban park in Coolah. It is an Aleppo pine or Pinus halepensis, commonly referred to in Australia as a Lone Pine. Alongside the pine is a large bush rock with a plaque inscribed with the details of the tree, its origin, name of donor and date of dedication. The tree is a direct descendant of the original Lone Pine and was donated by Eve Thompson and dedicated on 11 November 2001.

Many Lone Pines have been planted throughout Australia in public parks, school grounds, and on roadsides, in remembrance of those who served in the First World War. More information about these trees can be found on the Australian War Memorial's website
