It consists of an engraved piece of sandstone, positioned in a small garden bed in front of a flagpole. Since the initial dedication on 22 April 2008, a new polished stone plaque has been placed in front of the rock that includes details of the dedication by the Portland RSL sub-Branch and a mural has been installed on the wall behind the rock. The mural includes a large Australian flag, a First World War Australian soldier with reverse arms rifle and wording from The Ode. The tradition of reversing and resting on arms is a mark of respect or mourning.
