A photo of Joyce FraterJoyce Frater, joined by her daughter Erica Eurell and Jackie McDonald, talks about her Great Uncle Curtis who served in World War 1 in either the infantry or light horse.

Records show that Curtis was in and out of hospital with TB during his service, and he was sent home from Egypt in 1917 very sick with TB.

Joyce was too young to meet her Great Uncle Curtis but remembers a photo of him that was prominent in her house growing up.

She also talks about her cousins Ted Andrews and Claude McDermott who served in World War 2

Joyce speaks about attending Remembrance Days and Anzac Days regularly and how important that is to her.

She expresses her desire to learn more about her family’s service history, particularly now that her grandchildren are becoming more involved in learning about history at school.

Watch Joyce and Erica’s interview at the Tweed Heads Yarn Up.
