Veteran Notes/Bio

Twenty-four-year-old George Bancroft, a master printer, enlisted at Holsworthy on 23 August 1915. He nominated his mother, Emma Bancroft of The Parade, Enfield, as his next-of-kin.
Having contracted Epidemic Cerebro Spinal Meningitis, George died in the Field Hospital at the Liverpool Camp on 16 October 1915 and was buried in Rookwood Cemetery.
In 1922-1923 his mother received the Memorial Plaque and the Memorial Scroll, but no medals were issued.
George Bancroft was the younger brother of 3010 Sergeant Henry Bancroft who died of wounds at Fromelles, 19-20 July 1916.
