Faulkner Second World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background A simple timber honour roll with names of 31 ex-students, including two women, printed in gilt. It is inscribed as the 'Faulkner Honour Roll'; however, it was unveiled at the Falconer Public School. Falconer was a small locality situated on the eastern side of Guyra township. The school was open from March 1890 to May 1953. On 5 December 1946, the Guyra Argus reported "on Friday the Falconer P. and C. Association decided to erect an honour roll in the school, to include the names of ex-students who were in the Second World War.". The association appointed collectors, sought donations and published the names of the ex-students to be placed on the roll. The following year, on 23 October, the Argus reported the roll had been completed and was ready to be placed in the school. The ceremony was to take place in the school in December. In the Armidale Express on 16 January 1948, the unveiling ceremony was described as being attended by a large gathering, including mothers and relatives and many ex-service personnel. Mr W. J. Brodie, president of the Guyra sub-Branch of the Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia (R.S.S. & A.I.L.A.) performed the unveiling. The roll was later placed in the Guyra Soldiers Memorial Hall.
