Jeremy McNess and Mark Cairns-Cowan R.A.A.F. F-111 Air Crash Memorial, Guyra Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a bushrock, with a bronze plaque attached. It is dedicated to Flight Lieutenants Jeremy McNess and Mark Cairn-Cowan of the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.). They were killed when their F-111 crashed on the evening of 13 September 1993. They were undertaking a simulated attack on the former Guyra meatwork's building and crashed in a paddock four kilometres west of Guyra. The memorial was unveiled on 16 May 2000 by Air Marshall E. J. McCormack, Chief of Air Force. On the day, the R.A.A.F. provided a guard of honour and an F-111 fly-past. The memorial is located in the garden outside the Guyra office of the Armidale Regional Council. A second plaque is located on a property off Neeworra Road, Guyra. Both were organised by the former Guyra Shire Council. Inscription In memory and honour of Flt Lt Jeremy McNess and Flt Lt Mark Cairns-Cowan who were tragically killed on 13th September 1993 when their F-111 aircraft crashed into a field 4km west of Guyra.
