Guyra Rejected Volunteers First World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Guyra Rejected Volunteers First World War Honour Roll is a light-coloured timber board, with the names of those who volunteered but were rejected for service in the First World War. It also includes those who were accepted but in camp at the signing of the Armistice in 1918. The Guyra Argus, 24 August 1916, reported a 'Rejected Soldiers Association' had been formed. The headquarters was based at No. 3 Spring Street, Sydney "of men who have offered their services to their king and country and been rejected." It was also revealed that some 50,000 men had been rejected by military authorities at that stage. The Guyra community was conscious of the number of Guyra men rejected at military camps. The Argus, 23 May 1918, published a list of names from the Church of England, Parish of Guyra under the headings: killed in action; died of illness; accidentally killed; on active service; returned home and rejected volunteers (10 in all). On 23 June 1921, an advertisement was placed in the Argus, calling for the names of all rejected men to be inscribed on an honour roll. The memorial is located inside the Guyra RSL Room of the Guyra Soldiers Memorial Hall.
